RAKAIA GORGE BRIDGE

RECOMMENDATIONS TO BE MADE VISIT OF DEPUTATION. Certain recommendations will be made to- the Main Highways Board by its chairman (Mr L. Newnham) about the proposed width of the new Rakaia Gorge Bridge. This is a result of the deputation consisting of Messrs C. A. Campion (County Chairman of Ashburton), T. E. Pearson (representing the Selwyn County Council), J. Acland M.P., and Mrs Arthur Grigg, M.P. which waited on Mr Newnham to protest about the proposed width of 12 feet.

Representations by telegram Were also made by the Canterbury Progress League and the Canterbury Automobile Association. Emphasis was laid by the deputation on the necessity of a wider and more perma nent bridge for two-way traffic.
