THE WINTER SHOW

AWARDS IN THE DOG SECTION. ENTRIES OF GREAT QUALITY. COMMENT BY THE JUDGE. Exhibits in the dog section of the Ashburton Fanciers’ Society’s winter Show were declared by the judge of all breeds (Mr S. Soler, of Masterton) to be outstanding in quality. In spite of adverse weather and the counter attraction of a military display there was a good attendance at the show yesterday. Officials in charge of the dog display were: —Judge, Mr Soler, veterinary examiner, Mr W. Smith; show manager, Mr A. E. Tate: ring stewards. Mr Smith, Miss L. Greig and Mrs A. M. Spence-Clark. Under the guidance of the chairman (Mr G. H. Nieoll) and the secretary (Mr R. A. Loy), the committee worked hard to make the show a, success and their work was the subject of favourable comment by visitors.

Additional special poultry awards are as follow: —Minorca. Cup (best Minorca), R. H. Loy, Ashburton; George Bundy Memorial Cup, best bird lin utility poultry section, R. Pearce, Christchurch; A. L. Jones’ Cup (best bird in show and best cockerel or pullet), B. Kelly’s Black Orpington cock; Davis Cup (be,st cockerel or pullet), R. Pearce. The main interest to-day centred round the judging of the clogs.. Entries in the dog section, totalling 101, constituted a record for New Zealand this year, surpassing the entries in shows at Manawatu, Masterton, Wellington and Dunedin.
