NEW ACCOMMODATION

NEEDED BY ASHBURTON R.S.A.

EXECUTIVE TO TAK,E ACTION. Now promises for the Soldiers’ Club are to be sought by the Ashburton Returned Services Association, the present rooms being inadequate. Dealing with the club, the annual report stated that the expenses liad all been met out of the revenue from billiards and cards, the tobacco canteen and the activities of the Social Committee. There was a credit balance of £34 and the stock and cash in hand amounted to £159. The facilities were barely sufficient for the present membership and would be totally inadequate when men returned from the present war. The question of acquiring a. better and larger building would have to be considered. “What the executive wants is permission to carry on and get one of the best club buildings in New Zealand, complete with the best possible facilities, said Mr W. V. Joyce, commenting on the report. “After the war we will probably have anything up to 1000 members. Where would we put them if they came round to these rooms? Also wo must remember that there will be returned women who will be entitled to use the rooms. I am of the opinion that wo would have little difficulty in getting all the mon6y we need to erect- new premises. Already I have received olFers amounting to nearly £1000.”
