THE CATHOLIC CLUB.
The financial position is very gratifying, although 50 members are serving with the Armed Forces, stated the treasurer’s report at tho 44th annual meeting of the Ashburton Catholic Club last evening. The president (Mr F. X. McDonnell) presided. Two trophies, one for oratory, and the other for the most points in all branches of debating, were presented by members of the Club to encourage public speaking.
Officers were elected as follow: — Patron, the IteV. Dean J. J. O’Donnell; president, Mr F. X. McDonnell; vice-president, Mr M. D. Cunneen; spiritual director, the Rev. Father K. J. Rrosnahan; executive, Messrs J. llogatski, L. Hyland, J. McDonnell and W r . O’Grady; secretary, Mr L. Fox; assistant-secretary, Mr N. Fox; treasurer, Mr Iv. Reynolds; auditor, Mr S. Madden.
Messrs J l . Brown, F. K. Cooper and S. Madden were elected life* members. Mr. Cooper, the first president, gave a short talk on some of his experiences with the Club in its 45 years of activity.
