(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright.) (Rec. 11.45 a m.) LONDON, April .30.
Hitler received Laval at his headquarters in the presence of von Rihbentrop and Bastianini (Italian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs), says a communique from Hitler’s headquarters.
“All present showed complete understanding of the problems confronting Germany and Italy on the one band and France on the other hand. France’s share in the effort and the sacrifices which the Axis Powers are ready to bear in building up a new Europe against Bolshevism and the British-American pulotcracy were fully and objectively examined. Advantages accruing to France through participation were also examined.”
Laval has been negotiating since April 14 regarding further allotments of Frenchmen for work in Germany. “Tzvestia,” in an editorial, says: “Not many days separate us from big, stormy events. The hour of liberation is approaching.” A crushing defeat of the Luftwaffe took place over the Kuban on Wednesday and Thursday, when Russian pilots destroyed 116 German planes, .and marked the culmination of the terrific struggle for supremacy in the air that has been going on all April. Many Russian air aces in April added 10, and even 15, German planes to their individual scores.
