MOCK COURT.

MANY “SERIOUS CHARGES.” A mock court which, was held on the Railway Reserve in East Street this afternoon by the Ashburton Auctioneers and Freezing Buyers in aid of the Patriotic Funds, attracted a large and amused audience. Many, prominent citizens, caught walking unwarily in the streets, were arrested on “serious charges” and fined substantial amounts without the option. Officials of the “Court” were: Judge, Colonel J. Findlay; Crown Prosecutor, Mr A. A. McDonald; Clerk of Court, Mr K. Cookson.

The personnel of the “Police” force comprised Messrs L. D. Mulligan, R. C. McGregor, G. H. Nicoll, and O. Evans, who were assisted by Messrs C. Rowe, R. T. Drentian, C. E. Featherstone and M. D. Cunneen as a plain clothes force.
