, FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From.the ‘Guardian,” Apl. 30,1893). School Brize Distribution—The_anriual distribiitibn" of-prizes at the. Grcenstreet School< on Friday. The chair was taken by Mr H. M. Jones,' who briefly addressed the meeting op. the liberality that bad- provided so many prizes as tfyo§e they, were about to receive.- At intervals during the afternoon the proceedings -, were enlivened by some excellently tendered recitations. These gave great pleasure to the audience and reflected the highest credit on the training of the master. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO.

Use of Motor Tractors—A Lyndhurst resident states that the sounds of the motor tractors can now be heard daily in the district between Rakaia and Methven, and several of these modern appliances are now performing useful and speedy work in place of horses. Farmers who have purchased tractors are well satisfied with the results, and can not only .accomplish their own ploughing in record time, but ake able to help- some of their neighbours 'who are in the unfortunate position. of riot being able to get ploughmen.
