ELECTRICITY CHARGES
CONSIDERED TOO HIGH.
BOROUGH COUNCIL’S INQUIRY. Expressing the opinion that the charges for electricity in Ashbui ton appeared out of proportion to the charges in other centres, Mr A. A. McDonald moved at the meeting of the Borough Council last evening that information on the subject he sougnr from the Ashburton Electric Power Board. On receipt of advice, he said, it could be decided if it were feasible to take up the matter with the Member of Parliament for the district. Seconding the motion, which was carried, Mr E. C.. Bathurst said when lip came to- Ashburton from Christchurch charges here appeared exorbitant by comparison. Bulk supplies at cheaper rates were available in other centres and it seemed inconsistent that Ashburton, with a population of about 7000, should be treated differently.
