U-BOAT BASE AT L’ORIENT.

THIRD NIGHT RAID IN 10 DAYS. (Rec. 9.50 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 25. An Air. Ministry communique says: “The Bomber Command last night continued to attack L’Orient. Visibility was good and the docks were clearly seen In 20 minutes a great weight of high-explosives aiid incendiaries had been dropped and there were many large fires. Another force of our heavy / bombers attacked objectives in Western Germany. From these operations three of our planes are missing.” The raid on L’Orient, which followed within a few hours of the plastering of the U-boat base by Flying Fortresses and Liberators, was the third night attack by the Royal Air Force in 10 days. L’Orient has been bombed 61 times. British Official Wire-ess. The Air Ministry and United States. Air Headquarters announce that Flying Fortresses attacked the submarine bases of L’Orient and Brest on Saturday. Visibility was good and excellent results were obtained. Squadrons of Dominion and Allied fighters covered the bombers as far as Brittany. Enemy fighter opposition was encountered in the target area, and a number of the enemy were destroyed. Five bombers ar emissing.

The Air Ministry News Service states that Mustangs of the Army co-opera-tion Command bad another successful day’s operations over Northern France on Saturday. Pilots of one'squadron hit 17 locomotives and attacked three more with unobserved results.

In 50 minutes, one section of the squadron inflicted many casualties on a company of German troops, attacked six trains, and saw hits on all the engines, attacked two large barges, a dredge, and three tugs, and set one tug on fire. The pilots of other Mustangs brought the total of railway engines attacked to 27. Medium bombers took part in daylight operations on Friday afternoon.
