SAVING SHIPPING

RECIPROCATING LEND-LEASE.

SUPPLIES FOR AMERICANS.

NEW ZEALAND SENDS FOOD

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright). (Rec. 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 24 Mr Stettinius stated in Washington that reciprocal Lend-Lease has reached such proportions that there is a saving of millions of tons of shipping space. America is shipping almost no food to the forces in the Pacific area, and is receiving oA r er 100,000,0001bs of food from Australia and New Zealand. American forces in Britain in May to November, 1942, received supplies, besides construction materials equalling 1,200,000 tons of shipping space, which surpassed the tonnage of supplies from America during the same period. Twothirds of the civil labour force that is building camps for American troops were supplied by Britain, which also provided two-thirds ©f the warships, transports, and much equipment for the campaign in North Africa. Britain had turned over to the Americans 1000 barrage balloons, anti-aircraft guns, machine tools and convoy vessels.
