OFFICER FOR FIGHTING FRANCE.

COMMANDER OF GARRISON. (Rec. 9.50.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 22. Fighting French Headquarters announced that Major Sarrat, commander of the French garrison at Martinique, has escaped from there and joined the forces of the Fighting French. The announcement quotes Major Sarrar as saying that since the American landings in North Africa the bulk of French Martinique had been openly hostile to the Wichy Government. Several hundred persons petitioned Admiral Robert (French High Commissioner for Martinique) and urged the re-entry of tho French Caribbeans into the fighting against the Axis. •
