CLOTHING SUPPLIES.
NEGOTIATIONS OVERSEAS. SURVEY OF STOCKS BEING MADE CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Negotiations for the delivery to New Zealand of clothing and kindred supplies are being undertaken by a mission which has gone to Great Britain* and representatioris for supplies are also being made in America. This answer was given by the Minister of Supply (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) yesterday to a depfitatitin bf taildrs iri Christchurch who asked for some relief in the release of supplies of suitings. The Minister also stated that his department was at present making a survey of stocks and that military contracts were being reviewed. An endeavour , would he made, he said, td assist bespoke tailors, but the success or otherwise of these efforts would de-; pend -mainly on the success achieved by the Government’s representations! overseas to which he had referred. According to a statement yesterday, stocks of materials were discussed at a meeting of bespoke tailors of Christchurch on Wednesday dvening, and the difficulty of obtaining supplies was emphasised. The meeting decided to place the position before the Minister with the request that further supplies of suitings from New Zealand mills he made available fo the trade.
