FATTENING OF LAMBS.
Season favoured light land.
While the soft weather has delayed lamb fattening on the heavier country, causing drafts off the mothers to he smaller and below the normal standard, the liberal rainfall in the spring and early summer favoured the production of heavier crops and consequently heavier lambs on the lighter land. - When the works opened on December 7 an excellent line of lambs was sent in from the Selma Estate, Pendarves. For the first draft of 468 the average weight was 39.591 b, with three seconds. On December 21 the second draft of 232 was sent forward and it averaged 38.231 b, with two, seconds. In the third draft, sent away on January 11, there were II seconds and the average weight was 38.601 b. Evenness of weight was the outstanding feature of the drafts. Another draft is being finished on rape. A good draft of 561 was sent forward on January 4 by Mr L. Robertson, of Newlands. They averaged 41.801 b.
