BAPTIST UNION.
BUSINESS AT THE ASSEMBLY. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Delegates to the diamond jubilee assembly of the New Zealand Baptist Union yesterday, numbering 200, passed a resolution of loyalty ‘to the Throne, and expressed their deep sense of appreciation of the splendid example shown in war-time by the King and Queen and the Royal household. To this resolution was appended the sympathy of New Zealand Baptists in connection with the death of the Duke of Kent. The union sermon was preached by the Rev. D. B. Forde Carlisle, of Te Awamutu, who spoke on “Imperialism and Christ.” The assembly considered a report from the Church Union Committee appointed in 1941 to consider a doctrinal basis for corporate union between the Baptist Churches and the Associated Churches of Christ. It was stated that no official reply had as yet been received from the Church of Christ Union Committee, as that body has not held a. conference this year. The committee recommended that the assembly should reappoint its union committee, to receive any further representations from the Church of Christ. , The finance committee reported that the self-denial appeal exceeded last year’s giving, which, in itself, was a record. The amount contributed was £5239 (an increase of more than £500). The following were elected to the church extension committee: Messrs E. Nees, H. Ormond, B. E. Jones, J. R. Carey, H. W. Milner, K. Edridge, the Rev. L. A. North (all. of Wellington), G. E. Best (Hamilton), and the Rev. A. L. Silcock (Timaru).
