RED CROSS SOCIETY.
FLEMiNCTON-WATERTON. Tiie monthly meeting of the Fleming-ton-Waterton sub-branch of tho Red Cross Society was held in the Waterton Hall yesterday afternoon, tho president (Mrs' C. W. Anderson) presiding over an attendance of 31. The meeting took tho form of a next-of-kin social afternoon and. a welcome was extended by Mrs K. Taylor to all relatives of soldiers.
Extracts from letters written by Corporal J. M. Johnston, descriptive of life in Fiji, were read. A letter from Gunner M. Read, written whilst he was a patient in a Middle East hospital recently, was also read. An inteiesting collection of souvenirs from Fiji and the Middle East was oil display. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs T. Bell for making a quilt for a Canterbury military hospital. Mrs Bell also banded out sewing for the Lady Galway Guild and wool for soldiers’ comforts. Many, completed articles were handed in. Tho sum of £4 10s was realised from a well-stocked sales table under the supervision of Mrs T. E. Williams. It Was reported that the sale of recipe books had met with* such keen demand that it would bo necessary to print a 100 more copies. During a social hour a solo was sung by Mrs J. M. Johnston, jnr. The aceompaniste was Mrs Iv. Taylor. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mesdames 11. Kennaugh, G. Blee and S. Pearson. !
The November meeting will bo held at Flcmington, after which this subbranch will go into recess for the summer.
