NEW MUSICAL BODY.
FORMED BY MUSIC TEACHERS. A new musical body—the Mid-Can-l terbury branch of the Society of Registered Alusic Teachers of New Zealand —has been formed at Ashburton. The general objects of the Society are to promote the culture of music and to advance all branches of the art, while more particularly it aims to safeguard the interests and welfare of those engaged in the profession. • In other centres the Sociotyi has clone good work for those who depend solely on teaching for a livelihood, at the same time raising the standard of teaching by ensuring that only, fullvqualificd teachers are admitted to membership. The sole but essential qualification for admission as a professional member is that the applicant must he registered in the terms of the (Music Teachers’ Registration Act, 1925. Associate membership is open to those who are not registered, subject to the nomination being accepted by the branch. The officers of the Alid-Oantovbnry branch are: President, Airs A. T. Smith; vice-presidents, Misses L. Lewis and AT. Brown; secretary and treasurer, Air T. Ei. Staples; council, Misses A. Ruddock, B. Brown, J. Nish, AT. Jennings and Airs N. C, Jones.
