ATTACKS ON FORTS IN BAY. BOMBING WITHOUT RESULT. HEAVY TOLL ONI ENEMY. (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright). (Rec. 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, April 21. A Washington communique states: “Heavy artillery fire on our forts in Manila Bay lessened somewhat yesterday. The damage inflicted was not great, dive-bomber attacks were made by the enemy on Forts Hughes and Drum but most of the bombs dropped harmlessly in the water and no damage or casualties were reported at either fort. I “On Panay heavy Japanese attacks forced our troops to withdraw from two positions in Antique. Our outnumbered forces are continuing their resistance and are exacting heavy toll on the enemy in casualties.” —British Official Wireless.
