EXTRADITION ordered. (Rec. 12.30 a.m.) HOBART, Apl. 21. strong effort is being made to picVfent t' l © extradition of Richard Humphreys to New Zealand. When Humphreys was again before the Police Court to-day the Magistrate, Colonel Clark, granted an application for his extradition in order ta serve the remainder of his sentence at the Borstal Institution for the theft of a lumber jacket. His counsel, Mr H. Baker, intimated that a writ of habeas corpus would be served the same day on the New Zealand police officer into; whose custody the Magistrate committed Humphreys. The Magistrate said ho had to consider the matter of sending Humphreys bach a long journey for a trivial offence. It was not’ however, a trivial offence to escape from custody. Mr Baker submitted that it might be possible to discharge Humphreys if the owner of the yacht in which he had .. made the long journey across the Tas- ’ man was recompensed. The Magistrate said lie could not alter his decision, upon which Mr Baker gave notice of his intention to bring the matter before the Tasmanian Supreme Court at the earliest opporv titnity.
