CONDITIONS IN THE CAMPS. (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service!. CAIRO, April 17. Powdered milk and butter are the most popular items in parcels received by prisoners, said a senior officer of the New Zealand Medical Corps repatriated from lyd.v. Fruit was plentilul in Italy, and therefore tinned fruit was not so welcome. There was no chocolate in Italy, and that, mid honey and cheese wore very valuable additions to the ,]iot. 'Woollen socks and underwear were eagerly looked for. Many of the prisoners’ boots were dilapidated, and footwear was urgently needed. More books were becoming available. and occupational: training and lectures and the l study of languages were filling in the men’s time. The treatment of prisoners was not unreasonable. Many commandants did all possible to help them.
