The danger of a breakdown in the transport system was stressed 1 by Mr. Langford, who pointed out that further restrictions were inevitable When asked what should be done to meet the acute situation that had arisen because of the tyre restrictions, Air Langford suggested the follow--ing:— (1) Only essential goods should be carried. (2) Wherever possible, goods should be carried 'by the railways, even over short distances. (3) Vehicles should bo run only when, they have a capacity load. (4) No vehicle should be loaded to a greater extent than allowed by its heavy traffic licence, because overloading does untold harm to tyres. This should lx? regarded as a serious offence, (5) The placing of heavy restrictions on ancillary users. (G) Cancellation of petrel supplies to private cars.
