RED CROSS SOCIETY.

THE ALLENTON SUB-BRANCH. The report presented at the second annual meeting of the Allenton SubBranch of the Red Gross Society stated tTiat a series of refresher lectures ana first aid for St. John members and aids who would be required for duty at Warwick Hospital in , an emergency were conducted by Mrs Truman, Airs Mood, MV Lane and'Air Noble. Parcels had been forwarded to 4V Allenton “boys” who are serving overseas. Letters had been received from 31 of these saying the parcels had arrived in excellent condition and, expressing their appreciation. A petition signed by the Allenton Red Cross and Women’s Institute asking l'or the Fire Brigade Room to he enlarged had been sent to the Borough Council, and a reply received that it would be considered. A Junior Red Cross had been formed at the Allenton School, and under Aliss Hutton members were doing excellent work. Twenty pairs of mittens and live dozen handkerchiefs had* been handed

During the year 2'lh articles had been knitted or made up, including 17 pairs of socks and 35 pairs oi mittens. Thirty-seven articles had also been presented to the centre ioi* their own use. The Lady Galway Guild received H articles.

Officers elected were:—President Mrs F. A:. Scott; secretary, Airs J. P. Boothroyd; treasurer. Airs F. 11 Brdbm; vice-presidents. Airs L. A Walker, Airs J. IM. Wilkie and Airs G Harris.

A credit of ‘£66 was shown in the balance-sheet.

The funds had been raised bv lour card evenings, also by a sale of cakes in East Street. A quantity of wool and material had been made into garments for children in the bombed areas of Britain. Four parcels had been forwarded to the British RedXVoss Headquarters in London. Representatives of the sub-branch had visited the Public and Military Hospitals on Christmas Eve and distributed comforts.

The president (Airs Scott) presided.
