ENEMY AIR LOSSES AT RANGOON.

LONDON, Jan. 24

Tt is authoritatively stated in Burma that flic British force east of Moulmein has withdrawn after fighting an action at Jvawkareit against very superior Japanese forces. This action apparently enabled the British to retire westward without being closely pressed. The Tpkio radio claims that the Japanese arc pushing on to Rangoon and have crossed the Shan mountains and the jungles on the Thai-Burmese frontier. ‘They have also encircled Moulmein in south Burma.

Seven Japanese bombers and nine fighters are reported to have been destroyed this morning when enemy aircraft attempted to raid Rangoon. The Royal Air Force lost one machine, hut the pilot is safe. Four more enemy bombers and five fighters were lost in two more raids. It is officially announced in Rangoon that the Royal Air Force and the American t Volunteer Force smashed Japanese mass air raids by more than 50 Japanese aeroplanes in the Rangoon area on Friday, and shot down 20 enemy machines.
