They charge him with intriguing to bring about war between the two countries. The situation is very critical. It is expected that the Chilian Government will not reply to the United States ultimatum. Banana Flour—-Samples of .banana flour have been manufactured from Queensland grown fruit, and pronounced by Mr H. M. Stanley, the African explorer, as “good samples which would not be easy to improve upon.” Banana flour is being sold in London at the rate of £4O a ton, and its nutritive and medicinal properties are being investigated and discussed by eminent medical authorities. TWENTY-FIVE YEA&S AGO. (From the “(Guardian,” Jan. 26,. 1917). 'Management of Farms—A sub-com-mittee appointed by the Ashburton A. and P. Association to draw up a scheme in regard to the management of farigu. for County soldiers who are on active service met on Saturday afternoon. The Committee decided to advertise lor active retired practical farmers who are over military age, and who are willing to undertake the duties of management and supervision of farms, in the County of soldiers on active service. It is understood they will be expected to give their services gratuitously.
