TO LIVE IN FLAT.
THE KI'NG AND QUEEN. LONDON PAPER’S STATEMENT LONDON, Jan. 24. Their’Majesties have taken a flat on the fourth floor of a. new steel ana concrete building nearing completion in the West Elnd, and hope to move in within a fortnight, says the “Daily Mail.” There are two reasons for their decision to become flat dwellers. .First, the call-up is making increasing inroads in the Palace household, and their Majesties would require only a small staff for entertaining in a flat. Second, it is well known that their Majesties have always preferred a small, intimate homo. The Queen once said that neither she nor the King was “palace conscious.” The flat is specially built into a vast block of offices, comprising the o-nly living quarters. The entire building and office block already are almost fully occupied. Their Majesties will have their own “front door,” and also a private lift. They intend to use the flat- between spells in their engagements. The Queen a few days ago travelled from the country and spent a quarter of an hour inspecting the new home. The workmen did not know for whom the flat is being built. They were told to down tools and take an early luncheon.
