TWO WORKS IN THE COUNTY. The Ashburton Woollen Mills and the Fairfield Freezing Works are tho only Ashburton district works specifically mentioned in a series of declarations of essential undertakings published in the latest Gazette. Other industries are covered bv blanket declarations. The first series of declaration notices deals with industries as a. whole. The following are listed as essential for the purposes of the National ►Service Emergency Regulations:—Electric power production and supply (including Government undertakings); the manufacture and supply of coal gas; butter and cheese-making; coal mining (including Government undertakings); processing linen straw into fibre (including Government undertakings); all public and private hospitals; sawmilling (including Government undertakings and including any factory or industrial plant directly dependent on supplies of logs and producing material therefrom, and" also any operations engaged in the supply of logs to these plants).
