WOMEN’S FIELD DAY.

INSTITUTE AND DIVISION. An instructive field day under the auspices of the AVomen’s Institute and AViomen’s Division was held in the garden of Mrs G. H. B. Lill at AVillowby. Miss Cocks-Johnstone (co-ordinating tutor) gave a series of lectures tP the AVillowby-Lynnford and 'Asliton-AVater-ton Groups. The treatment of soils, planting, bedding, pruning, control of pests, vegetable and flower raising were dealt with. Bottling and preserving fruit and vegetables, particularly by a drying process, was a popular feature of the afternoon programme. A lesson on spinning with raw wool and a primitive spinning-wheel was given in tiro lunch hour. Many members bought spinning-wheels preparatory to knitting for the Mercantile Marine. Midday lunch and afternoon tea were served on the lawn.
