BOWLING.
THE ASHBURTON CLUB. The main item of interest in bowling circles on Saturday was the match for the Bullock Pennant played on tbe Ashburton green between Ashburton and Rakaia. The weather was very disagreeable, there being a very strong and cold southerly wind- which made conditions very uncomfortable for the players. Rakaia started strongly, but were unable to keep up the pace. Ashburton won by 93 points to 74. The final round will be played on December 13. Slow progress has been made with the club competitions. In the champion pairs and fours, no games have yet been played. As the time limit for the first round is fixed for Saturday, December 6, players will need to take every opportunity to play their games. Results to date arc Champion singles: Dakers beat Woods, Cameron beat Tulloch, Porter beat Tarbotton, Auld beat Edmonds, Cockroft beat Cuddon. Colts’ Singles: Ibell beat Shannon. Handicap Pairs; Russell and Tarbotton (s) beat Tinker and Dunlop (s); Penman and Amos (s) beat Bowman and Tulloch (s); Sinclair and 1 Buxton (s) beat Aitken and Porter (s); Cuddon and Lewis (s) beat Ibell and McEaclien (s).
Next Saturday the club will send two fours to play for Ashburton Sub-Centre against the Ellesmere Sub-Centre at Rakaia.
An evening match (seven fours aside) will be played with the Allenton Club at Allenton some evening next week.
