RUSSIAN PENETRATION

TANK IN ENEMY TERRITORY. LONDON, October 20. The story is told in Moscow of how a single heavily armed Russian tank carried out a reconnaissance far behind the enemy lines. The tank withstood tremendous fire from anti-tank guns, and cruised into a town, where it found enemy lorries on the road. Its appearance caused panic in the town, and 20 of the lorries .and several anti-tank guns were destroyed. Many German soldiers were crushed beneath the caterpillar tracks or wiped out by machine-gun fire. The reconnaissance was carried out 12 miles into enemy-occupied territory. After a few minor repairs the tank carried out another reconnaissance next day.
