THE 1 HICHBANK 6UB-BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Highbank Sub-Branch of the Red Cross Society received knitted sox and clothing for refugees, to be forwarded to the Ashburton Centre. Flannel hot water-bag covers wore cut out and handed to members to be made up. Wool for knitting sox and mittens was also distributed. The bring and buy table, well stocked with plants, cakes, sweets, and produce, raised a very satisfactory amount. It was decided to forward £lO to the Ashburton Centre to help to equip the V.A.D. room. Mrs Holland (Methven) read some interesting letters received from her son, who is serving in Egypt. Mrs W. J. Stockdill offered the use of her homo for the November meeting. The president (Mrs E. A. Bland) presided. ACTIVITIES AT WH.LOWBY. The monthly meeting of the Willowby sub-branch of the Red Cross Society was bold in the schoolroom, Mrs J. R. Lattimore presiding over a good attendance. Final arrangements were made for “Tulip Day” garden party m aid of funds, to be held at the residence of Mrs W. W. Avery. The following were appointed stall-holders: Afternoon tea, Mrs J. R. Knox (convenor) and Mrs Mooney; variety stall, Mesdames T. O’Grady, H. Oakley, H. Griffith and Miss Vessey; sweets, Misses P. Lattimore and M. Chapman and M. Keen; competitions, clock golf, Mrs Pearce; hat trimming, Mrs G. Chalmers; nail driving, Mrs Harvey; floral, Miss 1. Lattimore. , , . ~ . The monthly finished work handed in and the garments,.for overseas use were up to the usual high standard. Wool and material was distributed for tlie ensuing month. Mesdames Mooney and T. McKay and Miss Mooney were hostesses
