MINISTER INDUCTED.

SERVICE AT MAYFIELD. The Rev. J- G. Matthews was inducted into the charge of the Mayfield Presbyterian Church on Frinday evening. The sermon was preached by the Rev. R. W. Brown, of the Ashburton South charge, and the address to the new minister and congregation was given by the Rev. J. S. Murray, of St.. Andrew’s Church, Ashburton. The induction ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. B. Stevenson (moderator of the Presbytery).

After the induction a welcome social was extended to Mr and. Mrs Matthews the Rev. L. V. Bibby presiding. Speakers were the Rev. A. D. Kirkland, a former minister at Mayfield, the Rev. ,J. 'Johnston, of Geraldine (retired), also a former minister, Mrs J. D. Murdoch, for the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union, Mr P. McDowell (session), H. C. Barton (church managers), and Mr J. Jones (Bible Classes and Sunday Schools). The Rev. R.• TVBrown, a college friend of Mr Matthews, also spoke.

Items were given by Mrs T. McLean (song), Mrs H. R. Tasker (recitation), Messrs L. Prebble. and F. Barton (songs). Supper was provided by the women of the congregation.

Mr W. M. Turner (treasurer) made a presentation to Mr Bibby, interimModerator, for his work during the vacancy.
