ENTERTAINMENTS.

ST. JAMES THEATRE. Creating an imaginary husband to keep other men away seemed a good idea . . . at the time . . . but.when a handsome stranger claims lie’s the husband and demands his acceptance .... well there’s going to be fireworks . . . and there is in “Third Finger—Lett Hand,” showing finally to-night. With ?dyrna Loy as the husband creator ancl Alelvyn Douglas as the self-appointed husband there’s grand fun in the succession of mirthful episodes. What is undoubtedly one of the funniest and most original mystery-thrill-ers the screen has seen opens at the matinee to-morrow in “Busman’s Honeymoon,” filmisation of Dorothy L. Sayer’s entertaining nan*ative of a pail* of lioneymooners, both previously associated with the business of crime, who go to the English countryside to “get away from jt all” only to discover themselves in possession of the corpse of a murdered man. With Bobert Alontgomery as Lord Peter Wimsey, debonair amateur detective, and Cpnstance Cummings as his mystery fiction-writer wife, filling the leads, the action runs along at a merry pace. Combining a sense of comedy with the technical brilliance for which he has long been noted Alontgomery brings Lord Peter Wimsey to the screen w r ith a freshness and vitality that makes his every entry into a' scepe a welcome event. Sterling support is given the star in the performance of Cons face Cummings as the bride. Others in an excellent cast include Sir Seymour Hicks, Leslie Banks and Bobert Newton. The mystery and comedy elements of the production have been skilfully blended. COMMUNITY SING AT EALING. A most successful community sing was held in the Ealing Hall, under the auspices, of the Ladies’ Patriotic Guiid, to provide funds for comforts for local soldiers. There was a record attendance and the singing was heartily enjoyed, under the leadership of Messrs Olliver and Bell. Air Squire, of Timaru, was at the piano and Air White manipulated the slides. The following contributed items:— ■Vocal solos, Alisses Griffiths and Alarion Donaldson; mouth-organ solos, Mr Blane; bagpipe selection, All* Donald Alackenzio; solo (by request), Mr A. Donaldson. There was a varied collection of goods for auction and bidding was spirited. The amount realised was over £l4 and the total proceeds for the evening were £2S 11s 3d. Supper and a dance followed the sing, the music being provided by l Air Squire. All* B. Good Avas Alaster of Ceremonies.
