HOSPITAL BOARD.

HEAVY ADMISSIONS REPORTED. STATISTICS FOR LAST MONTH. The Ashburton Hospital Board met this morning. Reports showed that there had been heavy admissions of patients'in the last month. There were present Mr W. Bryant (chairman), Mrs A. N. Grigg, Messrs 0. A. Campion, H. E. Jessep, W. H. vVilkinson, Raymond Oakley and \V. G. Gallagher. The Chairman reported as follows:

Medical Superintendent Patients remaining July 31, 1941, 45 males, 47 females; total 92; patients admitted during August 66 males, 68 females, total 134. Total treated 111 males, 115 females, total 226; patients discharged during August 57 males, 57 females, total 114; patients died, 1 male, 2 females, total 3; patients remaining at end of August, 53 males, 56 females, total 109. Outpatient attendances 709, X-ray examinations, inpatients 59, outpatients 159; laboratory reports, inpatients 119, outpatients 29'; massage treatments, inpatients 139, outpatients LO2; diathermy treatments, inpatients —, outpatients 60, Ultra-violet ray, inpatients 2, outpatients 26; plaster operations, inpatients 9, outpatients 2; operations 93.

Matron’s Report.—The past month has been a very busy one, taxing the 'staff to their full capacity. Nurse M. 1\ McDonnell loft at the end of the month, having completed her term of braining. Nurses Frampton and 0. Davison have returned from their annual leave.

Malvern Home Report Nineteen lationts were admitted, 23 discharged nid five remain. The number of antelatal patients seen was 90. Sister A. 3. Allan commenced duty on September 1 and Nurse I. M. Telford resigned on August 31. Secretary and Treasurer’s Report.— Receipts: Balance August 31, £3737 is 3d, social security payments £192 3s, Army Dept., £lO4 8s Bd, patient’s fees paid £132 6s 6d, sundries £2 8s 3d; total £4168 7s 9d. Payments: Capital £1232 10s 3d, maintenance hospitals £2124 15s 4d, other Boards £79 2s, administration £145 2s 7d, outdoor .•elief £7 18.5, 9d, sundries £6O 3s 9d, balance £5lB 15s Id.

Major J. Russell Wells was granted leave of absence for the duration of the war. The Board expressed good .vishes to Major Wells in his work overseas.
