LENINGRAD DEFENCE.

“READY TO REPEL INVADERS.” ENEMY TANKS DESTROYED. (Rec. 2.5 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 26. The enemy are at the approaches to Leningrad, declared the Moscow radio last night. The announcer added that the city was ready to repel the invader and described the sandbagging and other defence measures. He recalled how General Kutozow defeated Napoleon and said that the famous General’s grave at Kazan Cathedral was surrounded by flags captured from the enemy. “The enemy will never set foot on these ancient stones.” The Germans have not bombed Moscow for seven nights. Ankara reports that the Soviet destruction of so many advance enemy tanks forced the Germans to revert to the; tactics of the last war. The tanks advance no more than 15 minutes ahead of the infantry and retire behind the infantry each night.
