AIR CADETS.
SCHOOL UNITS IN ASHBURTON. FORMATION DOUBTFUL. While just a sufficient number of pupils have offered to become air cadets to justify the establishment of a unit of the Air Cadet Training Corps at the Ashburton Technical High some of these pupils come from the country and if the Education Department rules that the air cadet training should be done after school hours, thus eliminating the country children, it may not be possible to form a unit at the school. The maximum number required in any one school to form a unit of the corps is /2 5, according to a circular from the Department, and this number has only barely been obtained at the Technical School. The number of students at the Ashburton High School signifying a desire to become cadets has not been sufficient to warrant the setting up of a unit, according to the Headmaster (Mr E. A. Cockroft).
