POWER BOARD.

STATISTICS FOR LAST MONTH BIG REVENUE INCREASES. Statistics of work done in the last month were presented in reports from officers received at the meeting of Ahe Ashburton Electric Power Board tins morning, when there were present Messrs E. F. Nicoll (chairman), W. H. Woods, J. Carr, W. G. Gallagher, H. R. Wilkinson, H. C. liar ton, W. Bryant, H. Morris, H. J. Crothers, AV. H. Bundle and J. AV. M. Dart.

The financial statement sjhowcd tnat revenue for Juno had totalled £7210 19s Id, compared with £6072 12s 9d for June, 1940, an increase of £ll3B 6s 4ct. For the three months, revenue had totalled £18,143 4s 7d, which was £2107 8s 7d above the amount received for the corresponding period of 1940. The Engineer-Secretary (Air H. G. Kemp) reported that twelve services and aerials involving the use of 20 poles were erected. One in Elgin required six poles, one at Mothven three poles, one at Mt. Somers two poles and the remainder one each. NVork had. been started on the changing of the wire on the AAlllowby-Hinds line, completed nearly to Lynnfo’rd. The ivirc recovered was stranded. The overhaul of /the Hinds-Maronan line Was completed, and til© Tinwald-Maronan line was also overhauled Trees were trimmed at Highbank and Alarpnan. Earth guards were erected at Aiaronan, Mitcham and Highbank. The Inspector (Air AV. >G. Welsh) reported that the wiring department was still being kept busy on installation work and a good deal of work had been completed. Alterations to lighting and extra motors had been installed in the woollen mills and tliis kept one wiring ghng at work practically the whole month. Extra motors and lighting were also being installed at the lime kilns and this would add further to the load in that district. The main items connected during the month were 11 new consumers, 19 water heaters, 11 ranges and 13 motors. # The Running-Engineer (Mr A. T. Saunders) reported that units supplied to the Public AA’orks Department had tptalled 1,693,900. The faultjnen attended to 543 faults during- the month. A number of shades were fitted to the street lights in the centre of the town to counteract sky-glow effects and on the outskirts the bulbs were painted. The paint seemed to bo standing well on the smaller lamps but the bigger ones were not standing well and it was proposed to fit tin shades as opportunity offered. The chairman pointed out that the units supplied in the last three months had totalled over 5,000,000 ' for the first time in the Board’s history.
