ENTERTAINMENTS.

ST. JAMES THEATRE.

“VIRGINIA.” Comedy and romance highlight the Paramount technicolour production “Virginia,” starring Madeleine Carroll and Fred Mac Murray. Offering a wealth of entertainment plus exceptional performances from a splendid cast, it is strong in story value and rich in appeal, the final performance will be given to-night. That no Hollywood picture producer has ever placed Nathaniel Hawthorne’s immortal “The House of the §eveji Gables” before the cameras until the present is somewhat surprising, but that oversight has now been remedied. The picture is now completed and will open at the matinee to-morrow. When Universal discovered that the Hawthorne tale had never before been filmed, it quietly began preparations for its production. They did not want any other studio to beat them to the screen with it. Theatregoers will find few changes in the screen version of . the unforgettable. tale and these only. i°t r the sake of greater dramatic interest and screen-story-telling. The producers have faithfully duplicated the historic House of the Seven Gables. The cast includes George Sanders, Margaret Lindsay, Vincent Price, Nan Grey and Dick Foran. Miss Lindsay appears as Hepzibah, Sanders as Jaffrey Pyncheon, Price as his brother, Clifford ; Nan Grey as Phoebe and Dick Foran as Matthew Maule.
