SOME RAIN THIS AFTERNOON. Extremely chilly and overcast conditions prevailed in Ashburton this morning, and in the early afternoon rain started to fall. The weather yesterday, although fine, was very windy and chilly. There was one degree of ground frost on Saturday night. The maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 54.5 and 39.0 degrees respectively, while on Saturday they were 65.0 and 34.2 degrees. The barometer read 29.25 inches this morning and 29.38 inches yesterday. TO-DAY'S FORECAST. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oaniaru is as follows: Moderate to strong south-westerly winds. Weather cold, and changeable down to low levels. Seas rather rough.
