LOSS OF MINESWEEPER
' * < CONDITION OF INJURED SEAMEN (P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 15, The condition of Able Seaman West, who was admitted to hospital after the sinking of H.M.S. Buriri, was reported to-day to be serious. Able Seaman D. R. Stewart ? s' condition is' said to he fairly satisfactory. The survivors were brought to Auckland last evening by warships. The missing commander, Lieutenant D. W. Blacklaws, R'.N.R,, Was '.S/jyejars of age. Ho was - horn in Scotland and educated in England', where he trained as a naval cadet. He came to New Zealand while serving in the mercantile marine and was a deck officer ,on the Aorangi for four year.*;. He was called for service with the Navy on the outbreak of war, and had served as navigating officer on H.M.S. Monowai. Four years ago Lieutenant Blacklaws married Miss Ruth Scott. There is one daughter, Sonya, aged two. His mother lives at Aberdeen. A brother was in the Dunkirk evacuation, and several brothers are in South Africa. *
