TANKS DESTROYED.

PROGRESS IN ABYSSINIA. (R.ec. 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, May 14. A communique issued at Cairo says: “During a limited offensive operation carried out by our troops from Tobruk two German medium tanks wore destroyed and many casualties inflicted on the enemy. In the Solium area the enemy lias again withdrawn to his original positions south and west of Solium, where be is being continuously harried by our mechanised patrols. “In Abyssinia, despite load obstruction and other physical difficulties, our two forces converging on Amba Alagi are making satisfactory progress. In tho lakes area south of Addis Ababa further success has been gained by the capture of a strongly-defended enemy position. The prisoners taken number -500, together with two batteries of artillery, five, light tanks and one anti-tank gun. Our troops also occupied Alagi, an important post north of Yavello. On the Neglveli-Dale road the pursuit of the enemy is continuing. In an action on Monday with tho enemy rearguard, which was driven back with heavy losses, our troops captured over 100* prisoners. “The situation in Iraq is quiet.”—British Official Wireless.
