PLUNKET SOCIETY.

THE RAKAIA SUB^BRANCH. The annual meeting of the' Rakaia Sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held recently. Officers elected for the coming year were as follow:—Patron, Mrs J. F. Langley; president, Mrs R. Harrison; vice-president, Mrs J. P. Connolly; secretary, Mrs G. A. Haslett; treasurer, Mr H. C. Nelson; committee, Mesdnmes Wisdom, Weaver, J. Connolly, J. Langley, Moon, Barber, Nicol, Oakley, C. Harrison, McNamara, Crow, Candy, G. Henderson, Sargent, McLachlan, Mucklo, and Sister Marshall. i

EIFFELTON ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of the Eiffel ton sub-Branch of the Ashburton Plnnkot Society, held in the Eiifelton School, was presided over by Mrs F. W. .Seldon, president of the Ashburton branch, and was very well attended by members and friends. Four new members Were present. Mrs H. White (president of the subbranch) welcomed the representatives from the Ashburton branch., also Nurse Poff, the district nurse. In presenting the annual report, tho secretary (Mrs O, W. Anderson) referred to tho successful year tho subbranch had concluded through the -willing co-operation of all members. The balance, sheet showed a credit balance of £SO 9s Id. Nurse Poff, in her report for the year, stated that 12 visits had been made to the district. Visits to homos totalled 190, and new.cases for the yeai were 19, an increase of 10 on the previous year. Tho general health of all babies was reif good. Nurse Poff urged mothers to pay visits to the Plunket rooms regularly after tho babies were 12 months old. She also stressed the importance of giving correctly-balanced lunches to school children.

The quarterly report from the Lady King Raritane '.Hospital, Christchurch, was read by Mrs T. E. Taylor. A helpful and instructive address on tho “Caro and treatment of the child’’ and the relative part played by the Plunket Society was given by Dr. G. Todd, of Ashburton, ancl on the motion of Mrs G. Moore ho was accorded a most hearty vote of thanks.

A “bring and buy” table under tho supervision of Mrs James McQuilkin and Miss A. Jainc, did a brisk trade. Competitions for an iced cake donated by Mrs J. Cameron, Longbeach, and a shawl donated by Mrs G. Moore, were won by Mrs Erie Taylor and Mrs L. Maginness respectively. Mrs Soidon congratulated the subbranch on its successful year and sound financial position. The election of officers resulted:— Patroness, Mrs J. P. 'McQuilkin; president, Mrs H. White; vice-presidents, Mofidamos J. vflbcks, .James McQuilkin, C. W. Anderson and G. Moore; secretary and treasurer, Mrs T. E. Taylor; executive committee. Mesdamos Cocks, Moore, Anderson, Cameron and Taylor. The president made a small presentation to the retiring secretary (Mrs C l . "VV. Anderson) in appreciation of her valuable services during the past three years. Supper provided by members was served at the conclusion of the meeting.
