RIFLE IMPRESSMENT.
POLICE HAVE RECEIVED 150 One hundred and fifty rifles had been dealt with at the Ashburton Police Station under the impressment of .303 rifles up to early this afternoon. All persons having in their possession .303 rifles are required to hand these over to the Government on loan for Heme Defence purposes on or before tomorrow.
One- hundred and .eleven rifles have actually been handed in at the Police "Station, while the police have been notied that 38 have been dealt with by unit commanders of the Home Guard. W r ben the. rifle is handed in the ow'ner may. .specify to which unit of the Horne Guard he desires it to go. If he has no preference the matter is decided by the Area Commander. Senior-Sergeant J. F'. Cleary points out that persons who are not,, in. the Homo Guard but who desire to hand their rifles over to Homo Guardsmen should first hand their weapons into the police station and receive a, receipt, as if they hand over the rifles without reference to the police, they have no record of their weapons,
