AIM ACHIEVED

100,000 HOME GUARDSMEN.

WORK FOR DO.MINION WOMEN. STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER, (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Ne>v Zealand poiy has 100,000 Home the figurp set as the original aipi* When''tlip campaign was in* angprated ’fiye' months' ago by tlie Minister'lof Hon. R. Semple). ’"' ' " ' Mr Semple said the organisation Would continue to take all the men wjio volunteered. He was most impressed with the remarkable enthusiasm of tlip .men. There, was nothing that they would not do. In the country districts the enthusiasm was amazing. For a time the cities lagged behind,' but in. recent weeks they, too, had come lip to scratch. After referring to the work of the women’s organisations and the Emergency Precautions Scheme, the Minister said: “New Zealand is organised to-dav as it has never been before in it's history. There is, of bourse, ’ still a lot of finishing work to he dope ; for instance, men of tlie Home Guard have yet to receive equipment,'hut preparations to that end are in hand. There is a little impatience on the part of some people, hut I want them to appreciate the fact that the difficulties are something over wliich we have no control. These difficulties will disappear in due course, and I ask those people tb'h aye'patience and faith. ' ‘-The women’s auxiliary will work in with both tlie Home Guard and the E.B.S. , and many’channels of activity are now open to women, so that they may ease the strain on man power very materially. In Britain, women are doing many kinds of jobs fo ease the strain on mail power and doing them with tli'4 highest degree of efficiency. What the women of Britain can do, the girls of this country'can and will do equally well, for they arc made of the’same stuff.”
