. MEETING AT MAYFIELD. Tlx l monthly meeting of the Mayfield Women’s Institute was held yesterday afternoon, when the president (Mrs ftAustin) presided' over an excellent attend a nee. The motto, "We took our hats off to the past, let us take our c-oats oil' to the future,” was given, by Airs C. S-ewoll. The roll call, “What 1 like about the Women’s Institute” was very well'responded to l>y all present. An invitation to attend the Arundel Institute’s birthday party in May was accepted. It was decided to sell poppies to aid the returned soldiers’ funds, members to sell them. Airs W. Riddick was welcomed as a now member.
A comprehensive report on the annual meeting of the Federation was given by Alls T. Taylor. A link letter from ALiss Poncho, of Alayfield. England, was proved very interesting. Airs A. J. Rusliton was appointed steward in charge of the monthly competitions. The sales table for the funds, in charge of Miss N. Goldsmith, realised 18s 2d.
The competitions, judged by Alesdanios R. Howson and J. McCormick, resulted: —Bowl of chrysanthemums, Airs G. J. Afurdocb 1, Airs L. R. Harrison: 2; three varieties of vegetables. Airs T. Heron 1 and 2.
The meeting closed with the National Anthem.
The hostesses were Mesdamos- C Dunstau, H. Seown and W. K. Dollow
THE LYNDHURST MEETING. The annual meeting of the Lyndhurst Women’s Institute was presided over by Airs R. E. Limbrick, vice-presi-dent. Al;t's Limbrick welcomed Airs Mcßae (president of the Alid-Caivter-bury Federation Executive) and members of the Lowcliffe Institute. Airs S. H. Anderson and Airs E.. Dunkley were appointed delegates to attend the annual meeting of the AridCanterbury Federation oD Women’s Institutes. Wool Was given to members to knit comforts for the Rod Cross, and poppies wore sold for the Returned Soldiers’ Association.
A posy was presented to Airs Afcßae, and shoulder sprays to Airs Limbrick, Afis Dunkley, and Airs Symes. Airs Mcßae presided for the election of officers. The report reviewed a very successful year, and the financial statement showed a credit of £9 15s 7d. Officers elected were;—-President, Airs R. E. Limbrick; vice-presidents, Alesdames W. Ccok and A. C. Gndd: secretary, All's R. Dunkley; treasurer, Af,vs O. W. Symes; committee, Mrs Gilmour, Mrs- AlcKondry, Mrs Woolley, Miss N. Kormode, and Miss X. Woolley; auditor, Airs W. K. Prebblc.
Winners of competitions for the year were: —“Braemar” trophy, Miss Woolley; runner-up, Mrs Woolley. Arts ami crafts: Aliss Woolley 1, Miss Kermode 2. Cooking: Aliss Woolley 1, Airs Woolley 2. Specimen bloom : Airs Woolley. Jar of (lowers: Aliss Prebblc. Monthly competitions resulted as follow: —Nut leaf: Airs Gadd and Airs K. Cook (equal) 1, Airs Dunkley 2, Aliss Woolley 3. Hand-made serviette: Aliss Woolley 1, Airs Woolley 2. Airs Dunklev 3. Specimen bloom : Aliss Prebblc and Aliss Woolley (equal) 1, Al,rs K. Cook and Airs Prebble (equal) 2, Airs W. Cook 3. Jar of flowers: Airs Dunkley 1, Aliss Woolley .and Aliss Prebble (equal) 2, Airs K. Cook 3. Best decorated egg cup: All’s Prebble '!, Airs Dunkley 2. Airs K. Cook 3. Tins of biscuits were dispatched to local soldiers overseas. The hostesses for the afternoon were ATrs P. Prebble fill Aliss Prebble. MEETING AT RAKAIA. The monthly meeting of the Rakaia Women’s Institute was well attended, the president (Airs Cromie) presiding. The secretary (Airs Boll) reported on the annual meeting of the Federation held at Ashburton. Airs AleAnulty was congratulated on being elected to the executive committee.
Airs Colgan continued the Golden Thread talk.
It was agreed to send two soldiers’ parcels each month, two having been dispatched last month. 'Aliss Taylor-Cannon (dental nurse) gave an interesting talk on tooth and their relation "to health.
