RATH FOR INFANTS.

SUBSIDY FROM DEPARTMENT PROJECT AT BOROUGH SCHOOL. The hath committee that was appointed at the previous meeting of the Borough School Committee was .last evening empowered to go on with the construction of the infants’ hath. The Canterbury Education Board advised that the Department was prepared to give favourable consideration to making a grant to cover half the cost of a small learners’ pool, but was unable to provide any assistance toward the cost of sinking a well and installing a pump to provide the school with a water supply.

The Board also advised that it was unable to authorise the painting of the outside'of the model school at present. The levelling and top-dressing of the asphalt slab in front of the infant school had, however, been authorised. As the cost of demolishing the old infant school would be more than three times the value of the iron salvaged, the Board advised that it could not favourably consider -the committee’s suggestion that the iron obtained be used for a boundary fence at the roar of the dental clinic. It was considered that the old building should he sold by public auction for removal and tiiat a post and wire boundary fence ho erected.

Authority could not ho given for the erection of three drinking troughs with bubblers, si atod a letter from the Board. The Board advised that the committee's monthly capitation allowance as at April I was £l7 10s sd. The chairman (Mr W. IT. Sarnoy) was appointed to represent the school on a special Emergency Precautions Committee for schools.

The headmaster (Afr Al. J. Leith) reported that the average roll number was 422.5 and the average attendance 360.9. Air W. T. Lowry, who would he released from Territorial , training, would' commence duty here as a probationary assistant next Alonday.
