ANNUAL MEETINGS.

THE WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.

NEW OFFICERS AT HINDS. The annual meeting of the Hinds Women’s Institute was held in the Centennial Hall on Wednesday afternoon. In the absence of Mrs Aloffatt (president) Mrs McQuillan presided over a good attendance. The roll call was “Suggestions for New Year.” It was decided to knit peggy squares for the Lady Galway Guild. A link letter from Burgliclere, England, was read by Mrs 'McQuilkin. Mrs Bell presented Mrs Davis and Mrs McQuilkin with posies. Bouquets were presented to Miss Frampton and Mrs Bell by Mrs Davis. Mrs Davis (a member of the Federation) presided at the election of officers, which resulted :—President, Mrs Moffatt ; committee, Mesdames Farrell, McQuilkin, Bell and McKeage, and Misses M. Wilson, A. Frampton and R. Frampton. Mrs Rickard thanked Mrs Davis for a helpful and encouraging talk which

she gave on Institute affairs. Prizes for most points gained in competitions throughout the year were presented by Mrs Davis to Mrs Simpson (first) and Mrs Bell (second). The monthly competitions resulted: Tomato relish, Mrs Bell 1, Mrs Simpson 2, Mrs Lennie and Miss M. Wilson (equal) 3; bowl of flowers, Mrs Lennie 1, Mrs Bell 2; bloom, Miss A. Frampton 1, 'Mrs Rickard 2, Miss Wilson 3; boy’s trousers (for Lady Galway Guild), Miss R. Frampton and Mrs Telfer (equal) 1, Mrs Lennie 2, Mrs Bell 3.

The hostesses were the members of the retiring committee.

THE STAVE LEY OFFICERS. The annual meeting of the Staveley W r omon’s Institute was held recently, Mrs Ruddock (Mount Somers) presiding. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mrs W. Norman; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames G. Button and I. Vanstone; secretaries, Mesdames G. Nell and Timpson; treasurer, Mrs S. Goldsmith. Competitions resulted as follow: Wool work, Mrs Russell 1, Mrs A. Wright 2, (Miss .T. Ogg and Mrs G. Bufton (equal) 3. Odd buttons: Airs Vanstone 1, Mrs L. Hicks 2, Airs S. Goldsmith 3. Pencil work: Mrs L. Hicks 1, Airs G. Bufton 2, Airs Timpson 3. Potatoes: Miss J'uno Ogg 1, Airs Y. Alehrtens 2, Airs L. Hicks 3. Bloom : Airs G. Bufton 1, Airs R . Grieve 2, Miss! Juno Ogg 3. Spike: Airs O. Totty 1, Mrs G. Bufton 2, Airs L. Hicks 3. Cluster: Airs G. Bufton I, Airs Wright 2, Mrs R. Grieve and Mrs S. Goldsmith (equal) 3.
