NO WELCOME.

STATEMENT BY MR HISLOP. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Mayor (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) said to-day that lie had no knowledge of the arrangements for the reception of the party of invalided soldiers which landed at Wellington recently and which was criticised by Mr T. McNab at a meeting of the Auckland Patriotic Executive. Mr McNab had said that the party received no hospitality or welcome of any kind. Mr Hislop said that had he had any information steps would have been taken to look after men properly. “If we are informed in reasonable time in future so that arrangements can be made to afford any assistance that may be required we would he glad to, do all we can,” said the Mayor.
