UNDERTAKER ON THE ALERT. (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Mar. 24. “He went to an undertaker to arrange for the burial of his mother, who is still alive,” said Sub-Inspector Pender, when . Archibald Cooper Benson, aged 40, a carpenter, pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to obtain £1 from an undertaker by false representations.

(Sub-Inspector Pender said that Benson told tlie undertaker that he had £SO, but no money with him, and asked for the loan of £1 to send telegrams to relatives. The undertaker made inquiries and declined the request. Benson was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment with hard labour, and, on a second charge of failing to make maintenance payments in favour of his four children, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment.
