OPEN EWE FAIR
TWO-TOOTHS REMAIN FIRM.
PRICE OF 36S 6d AT TINWALD.
EXCEPTIONALLY SMALL YARDING
Prices for two-tooth ewes at the Open Ewe Fair held at the Txnwald saleyards' to-day were firm on values at the Ashburton County Breeders Fair last Monday. There was a tanattendance of farmers and the bidding was generally keen, only a few pens being passed in. The entry was an extremely small one compared with that of last year, when about 14,000 sheep were yarded at Tinwald. It was estimated that there were between 3000 and 5000 sheep at the yards to-day. W ith the small entry there was not tho wide selection of ewes to be seen as at the Breeders Fair and in the wet drizzling conditions tluijt prevailed this morning the sheep looked far from their best. Tho fair did not commence until about 11.45 p.m., the fat stock market being held before it. Up till about 1 o’clock the top price of the sale was 36s 6d, in excess of the 34s 3d obtained at the fair last week. This high price to-day was obtained by Mr J. Cocks (Eiffelton) with two pens of tivo-tooths, one containing 67 sheep and the other 62.
