WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

THE FAIRTON MEETING The president (Mrs H. Thompson) presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Fair ton. Women’s Institute, and Mrs H. Chappell was at the piano. One resignation was received. It was decided that a cup, saucer and plate be sent to Miss Mary Oram, who has left the district. Mesdames H. Chappell and A. McCall were appointed to attend the halfyearly meeting of the Council on April 4. Mjrs Thompson, who is retiring from the presidency, was presented with a silver bread fork in recognition of her services. Mrs Evans presented Mesdames Thompson, McCall, Slade and Taylor with shoulder sprays. Mrs G. M. Breeze, who was also presented with a shoulder spray, took charge of the election of officers, and spoke on Institute matters. The election of officers resulted: President, Mrs A. McCall; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames H. Chappell and W. Bryant; secretary, Miss Oram; treasurer, Mrs H. Sladie; sales table stewards, Mesdames J. Willis and L. Taylor, H. Thompson, G. Nutbrown, J. Ford. Mesdames Cullen and M'eaclean judged the competitions, which resulted : Sugar Buns, Mrs McCall 1, Mrs Bennison 2, Mrs Evans and" Mrs Nutbrown (equal) 3. Beans, Mrs Willis 1, Mrs McCall 2, Mrs Evans 3. Pea Pods, Mrs McCall 1, Mrs Slade 2, Mrs Willis 3. Asters, Mrs Slade 1, Mrs McCall 2, Mrs Evans 3. Specimen Bloom, Mrs Evans *l, Mrs Slade 2, Mrs Bennison 3. Tomatoes, Mrs Evans 1, Mrs Willis 2, Mrs Slade 3. Knitted Singlet, Mrs McC'all and Miss Stevens (equal) 1, Mrs Slade 2, Mrs Bennison 3. Mrs Breeze presented the prizes won during the year as follows: Cooking, Mrs Bennison; sewing, Miss Stevens; flowers, Mrs Willis; most entries in all soctions, Miss Bona Chappell. The hostesses were Mesdames J. McKay, D l . Bobertson, and G. Nutbrown.
