SIXTEEN PLANES CRASH

A striking air success, achieved in an engagement with the Germans over Malta, is recorded in a Royal Air Force Middle East communique, which states: ....... ■■ •"jsuScscafeSvuT. ■j- « # “Over Malta, 16 enemy aircraft were shot down during a heavy raid on March 5. Our fighters accounted for two Junkers 88V two Junkers 87V, one Domier 115. and two Messerschmitt 119 V. In addition one Messerschmitt 110 and eight other enemy aircraft were destroyed by anh-aircraft fire. Several other enemy aircraft were damaged and it is doubtful whether they managed to return to their base. In this engagement, in which the enemy aircraft numbered over 100, only one R.A.F. fighter was shot down. Some damage was caused to buildings, but there were no casualties to R.A.F. personnel.
